Big potential, brighter futures.
The story behind Start Up Scholars Academy and the community we're building for Glendale families.
Led by someone who genuinely loves this work.
Start Up Scholars Academy was built on a simple idea: every student has big potential, and the right support at the right time can make all the difference.
Located in Glendale, California, we work with K–8th grade students through private tutoring, STEM learning, and afterschool care designed to feel welcoming, supportive, and comfortable—like a second home.
Our founder, Tiana, grew up in Glendale and attended Glendale Unified schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. She attended R.D. White Elementary School, Wilson Middle School, and proudly graduated from Clark Magnet High School. Growing up in the same community she now serves is a big part of why she created Start Up Scholars Academy and why she understands the needs of local students and families.
Tiana is currently a senior at Woodbury University, majoring in Computer Science in Media Arts with a minor in Architecture. She brings her background in software engineering, technology, design, and classroom experience into the Academy to make learning both educational and engaging.
Tiana firmly believes that students grow most when they feel comfortable, supported, and genuinely engaged. Her vision is to create a space where students want to learn rather than feel forced to. Through creative, hands-on, and interactive teaching methods, she aims to make learning approachable, meaningful, and enjoyable.
Guided by her Christian faith, Tiana approaches every student with patience, encouragement, and genuine care, helping each child feel valued while building the skills and confidence they need to grow.
Real thinking first. Technology second.
We believe kids grow the most when they do the thinking themselves. We've watched students lean on AI to finish their homework, their sentences, even their thinking, all while spending more time glued to a screen than ever. Our philosophy is simple: technology, including AI, should be a tool that supports learning, not a shortcut that replaces it. Every student who comes through our doors is encouraged to work through the hard part first, ask questions, and build real problem-solving skills, then use technology thoughtfully and in moderation, not by default.
Real skills, not just right answers.
Alongside academics, every session builds habits that carry students well beyond our program.
Group projects
Students build hands-on projects together, not just worksheets alone.
Collaboration
Learning happens together, with peers and with Tiana, not alone behind a screen.
Responsibility & accountability
Students own their work and their choices, building habits that last.
Positive reinforcement
Effort and growth are recognized along the way, so motivation keeps building.
Care that feels personal. Learning that sticks.
Whether a student needs one-on-one homework help, a fun introduction to coding, or a safe and structured place to spend their afternoons, our goal is the same: help them build the skills and confidence for a stronger tomorrow.
Whole-child support
Academic help and social connection belong together.
Safe & prepared
CPR and First Aid certified care you can trust.
Joyful learning
Hands-on activities make hard ideas feel inviting.
